Inmarsat and SeaFocus are calling for students interested in the maritime industry and maritime safety to join this exciting Intelligence Hunt project.
The selected students will participate in the Inmarsat – SeaFocus project as Junior Consultant Interns in a team of 4 people. The project team will be led by a Project Manager and include Main Subject Mentor, a Junior Consultant and Supporting Mentors.
Inmarsat was established in 1979 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to develop a satellite communications network for protecting lives at sea.

Last week we had a meeting with our Partner Elomatic and the presented the Final report of the Intelligence Hunt on Pricing Green Ammonia. The case company was very pleased with the report, conducted by our specialists and the video conducted by a student team Elogmatic.

Today our partner Finnpilot Pilotage was celebrating their new office premises "house warming party". Kari Kosonen, the Managing Director welcomed all visitors and told about the activities of the company. The purpose of pilotage is to enhance the safety of vessel traffic and prevent environmental damage generated by vessel traffic.
Today one of the talent teams of the Intelligence Hunt 9 project presented their report to the case companies Flexens, Regional Development of Kokkola, Kosek and the City of Kokkola. Their task was to study possibilities for having "Hydrogen Propelled Small Ferry Transport in Kokkola". The case company representatives where pleased with the findings. "This is something we need to study more, " said Jonne Sandberg, the Development Director of Kokkola.
Our Strategic Partner Finnlines was celebrating their 75-year anniversary. The celebration was organised at one of the newbuilds Finneco II. We had an honour to congratulate and join the celebration.
We had a strategy meeting about the new Intelligence Hunt concept and we had a pleasure to visit our partner´s Rödl & Partner´s office in Helsinki.
Very fruitful meeting and great commitment from all members of our crew.
SFAEM2022 took place today. The meeting was organised together with our Strategic Partners Finnlines and National Emergency Supply Agency. The meeting was part of our partner programme and targeted for our partners and their stakeholders.
The meeting ended with a visit to one of Finnlines´ star class vessels at Vuosaari, M/S Finnmaid.
We have been working on revising and updating the Intelligence Hunt concept. It is still about the young talents, but now we also involve a team of experienced experts to work for the case company.
SeaFocus has strengthened the teamwork in order to provide better services for our partners and stakeholders through out the summer period. We have been working in teams on different issues. September 20th we will have a strategy meeting to present the results by each team and finalise the activities.
SeaFocus participated the the Annual Garden Party at the British Ambassador’s Residence. The party was to celebrate the end of summer season and beginning of business season and it was organised by the British & Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce in Finland Ry.

Victoria participated the 9th Intelligence Hunt in a team Flare of Future, which was working on a case assignment "Customer Service Requirements and Strategic Partnership - Port Profile in 2030” given by the Port of Uusikaupunki and Stevena.
Victoria comes from Panama, land of the Panama Canal, this has inspired her to get into the logistics and maritime field which she is currently studying at Hamburg, Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg).
SeaFocus is back on track and working on the strategy update. Today we had a follow up meeting. We will work in teams on different issues and in September 20th will have a physical meeting in Helsinki to finalise the work.
Team FLARE OF FUTURE presented the second part, the confidential part of the Intelligence Hunt project to the case companies The Port of Uusikaupunki and Stevena in the end of June.

SeaFocus took part in the online conference on Marketing in Maritime (MiM), which is a professional community united by a passion for powerful marketing in the rapidly-changing maritime sector. They challenge the idea that shipping is an industry that responds to conservative marketing methods and make it their mission to highlight best practice, emerging business dynamics and innovative solutions. This three days with 2,5 hours sessions is organised by WakeMedia. SeaFocus is one of the sponsors of the event.
We are working on improving the seaFocus strategy and elaborating the different strategy blocks in teams.
Today we had a check point meeting and every team presented the ideas so far.
Very interesting and valuable work.

Team CAPTAIN AKER ARCTIC presented today the second part, the confidential part of the Intelligence Hunt project to the case company Aker Arctic Technology. The case company representatives Reko-Anti Suojanen, the CEO and Jukka Salminen, the Sales Manager were pleased with the work and they got some new ideas from the team on how to tackle the tricky question of "Utilising Icebreakers During the Summer Season".

Finnlines will boost its maritime connections between Finland, Continental Europe and Spain with the deployment of the Eco class hybrid ro-ro vessels. As a new addition, a link between Ireland and Belgium will be launched.
Finneco I is Finnlines´ largest vessel, with a cargo capacity of 5,800 lane metres, equivalent to around 400 trailers. To reduce emissions, the vessel is equipped with many advanced technologies, such as air lubrication, a high-powered battery bank and solar panels. Finneco I flies the Finnish flag.

Intelligence Hunt project competition is a unique competition that brings together shipping and maritime companies with groups of students who come together for three months to work on and solve challenges given them by those companies.

The first day of the Navigate2022 maritime and shipping trade fair in Turku Finland. SeaFocus was the main programme producer. Today we had the Finals of the Intelligence Hunt 9 project competition, where seven talent teams presented their understanding and views on the importance and value of the given case assignment to the case company, the industry and the society. The main question was “why?” such an assignment. This part of the project was evaluated by an international Jury.

Today we had a lecture with Esko Mustamäki about Shipping Finance.
This was one of the lectures of the Mentoring Programme for the Winner and First Runner-Up Team of the Intelligence Hunt 8.

This time the project competition consists of two parts. At the Finals of the Project Competition in June 1-2, 2022 the Talent Teams present their understandings and views on the importance of the given case assignment to the case company, the industry and the society. This part will be evaluated by the Jury. After the Finals the project continues and the Talent Teams will work on the confidential part of the project and will deepen the findings and solutions. This part will be presented only to the Case Company Management only in the end of June 2022 with the team Mentor.

The Kokkola City ´s strategy sets up guidelines for the city operations. The key themes of the strategy are renewal, financial balance and the city’s role as an enabler along with its previous implementing role. These themes have been selected with the aim of preparing for future changes in the operating environment.

NORA HAAPALA is a Member of the Jury of the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. Finals will be held in June 1-2, in Turku, Finland in conjunction with the Navigate2022.
Nora Haapala is an attorney-at-law who works since 2011 for an international advisory firm Rödl & Partner. She has extensive background in transportation law, currently working on a report on the interpretation of the CMR treaty in the Czech Republic. Her qualifications include also advising on corporate law and compliance procedures, with specialization in intellectual property law. Apart from having degree in Law and jurisprudence from one of the most prestigious universities in the Central Europe – Charles University in Prague, she deepend her legal skills also while studying at Heinrich Heine Universität in Germany. As part of Rödl & Partner Asianajotoimisto Oy - located in Helsinki she is providing international clientele with broad spectrum of legal services in English, German and Czech language.
We had a SeaFocus Strategy Workshop day today with Rolf Neise, Frank Kho, Poul Woodall, Craig Eason, Markku Mylly, Esko Mustamäki, Ulla Keino and Heli Koukkula-Teixeira.
The workshop was facilitated by Jussi Heimonen. Before the workshop we did some home work in order get ready and gather everyones´ thoughts about our future activities.
Today we had kick-off meetings with the following case companies and their Mentors and Talent Teams: the City of Kokkola & Flexens, Wärtilä Voyage & Meyer Turku and Aker Arctic Technology.
Talent Teams are eager to start the work on the case assignments and they asked a lot of questions from the company representatives at the meetings.
Dr ROLF NEISE is is a Member of the Jury of the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. Finals will be held in June 1-2, in Turku, Finland in conjunction with the Navigate2022.
Dr Neise is currently working as a freelance consultant at HPMLOG Project & Management Consultants GmbH supporting multinational companies to optimise their supply chain management and logistics structures and as a lecturer at the International School of Management (ISM). Prior to that Mr Neise was working as the Global Head of Logistics Operations at BAT (British American Tobacco plc.), in charge of defining BAT’s Logistics Strategy in the End-to-End Supply Chain. Mr Neise majored in economic engineering at the Technical University Berlin and wrote his doctoral thesis on transport logistics at the University of Stuttgart.
Today we had kick-off meetings with the following case companies and their Mentors and Talent Teams: Port of Uusikaupunki & Stevena, Cyberwatch Finland and NUAer.
At the meetings we went through short introductions, the case assignment and some practical issues regarding the whole project competition.

Here we go again! For the 9th time we are kicking off the project competition and this time with a new twist.
Today we had a really wonderful meeting with the Talents qualified as Finalists of the Intelligence Hunt 9.
We received 53 applications. The applicants represent 26 Universities and 26 nationalities.
Really looking forward the project works to kick-off the next week with the case companies.
We are happy to announce that NUAer will join the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. The Finals will be held in conjunction with the Navigate2022 Maritime Trade Exhibition June 1-2, in Turku, Finland.
NUAer is a joint venture between Nordic Unmanned and Aeromon. The company was formed in October 2021 as a response to the increasing demand for maritime emission measurements. NUAer combines the operational excellence and global reach of Nordic Unmanned and the world-leading emission monitoring technology of Aeromon.
The 9th Intelligence Hunt project will kick-off next week. We are really excited. We have more than 40 promising talent candidates and great case companies joining the project.

Tiina Tuurnala is the CEO of the Finnish Shipowners’ Association as of 1 April 2017. She has over 20 year of experience from leading positions within transport sector. Tiina began her career with the Finnish Maritime Administration in the early 1990’s. Before joining Finnish Shipowners, Tiina served as Deputy Director General of the Finnish Transport Agency in charge of the traffic and Information Function. She was responsible for national traffic management, icebreaking services, nautical charts and hydrographic surveys and functions related to the development of digitisation, automatisation and intelligent traffic.
We are happy to announce that Stevena will join the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition together with the Port of Uusikaupunki. The Finals will be held in conjunction with the Navigate2022 Maritime Trade Exhibition June 1-2, in Turku, Finland.
Stevena offers its´ clients stevedoring, warehousing, value-added, ship agency, transport and chartering and complete logistics services. The goal is to grow together with their customers. They have the capacity to grow and develop according to our customers’ requirements. Stevena is part of KWH Logistics – a versatile group offering international transports, port logistics and industrial services.
PIA MELING is is a Member of the Jury of the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. Finals will be held in June 1-2, in Turku, Finland in conjunction with the Navigate2022. She is also an Inspiring Speaker at the Intelligence Hunt.
Pia Meling is the Vice President at Massterly, which is the world’s first company set up to operate zero emission, autonomous vessels. She has broad management experience from shipping and the maritime industry; both within chartering and commercial management of vessels at the leading dry bulk operator Klaveness, as the General Manager of Nav/Com service provider Radio Holland, the Marketing & Communications Manager for scrubber manufacturer Clean Marine and as Area Sales Director for Marine Products in Wilhelmsen Ships Service.

ALAN McKINNON is is a Member of the Jury of the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. Finals will be held in June 1-2, in Turku, Finland in conjunction with the Navigate2022.
He is a Professor of Logistics in Kühne Logistics University, Hamburg and Professor Emeritus at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He has been researching and teaching in freight transport / logistics for 42 years and has published widely in journals and books on many different aspects of the subject. Much of his research has focused on the relationship between logistics and climate change. He has been an adviser to several governments, parliamentary committees and international organisations, including the International Transport Forum/OECD, the World Bank, European Commission, World Economic Forum and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In 2018 he published a book on ‘Decarbonizing Logistics’.

The other panelists were Pierluigi Dal Pino, Microsoft Italy Marcello Di Caterina, ALIS Vice President Matteo Gasparato, President of the Union of Italian Interports Rodolfo Giampieri, President of the Italian ports association Carlo Giro, Manager - EU Goods Transport of International Road Transport (United Nations Organization) Wolfgang Gobel, President of the European vehicles association Paolo Malerba, Telepass (Telepass is a big company that manages the motorway toll collection system with the use of electronic tolls).

LIESL HOTALING is one of the Inspiring Speakers at the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. Finals will be held in June 1-2, in Turku, Finland in conjunction with the Navigate2022.
Liesl is an educator and hands-on curriculum designer, and focuses on bringing ocean observations to non-expert audiences, either through data experiences or construction of their own observing equipment (sensors, buoys, gliders). She is co-editor and contributor to the recently released book, Preparing a Workforce for the New Blue Economy: People, Products and Policies, which is an edited work bringing together multiple sectors to help develop the partnerships and coordination needed to cultivate a workforce to support the New Blue Economy. Ms. Hotaling holds a B.S. in Marine Science, a M.A.T. in Science Teaching and a M.S. in Maritime Systems.
JULIA SWALES is a Member of the Jury of the 9th Intelligence Hunt project competition. Finals will be held in June 1-2, in Turku, Finland in conjunction with the Navigate2022.
She has over 15 years of experience in business book publishing. She was formerly the Head of Publishing at Kogan Page, London, commissioning logistics books for academic and corporate markets. She researched key topics in supply chain and logistics, grew a large network and sourced authors for over 100 books. Now Julia has brought this knowledge and experience to a variety of market intelligence, research and content development roles in supply chain and logistics, where she specialises in sustainability and new technologies. She is the Director of Community Content, boom! The Global Network for Women in Supply Chain and also Advisory Board Manager, Foundation for Future Supply Chain.

She is the Director of the Executive MBA in Shipping and Logistics (The Blue MBA) at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Europe’s leading institution of its kind. From the beginning, she has been responsible for the design, development and co-ordination of The Blue MBA. On behalf of CBS, she has a fundamental role in building global relationships and networks within the maritime industry. From 2005 to 2009 Irene Rosberg was Director of the DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) programme. Since 2017 she has been a member of an EU expert group for the motorways of the seas. At recent survey she achieved No. 1 place for the top 100 women in the shipping industry for 2020.

Kari Sillanpää is an experienced maritime business professional with a comprehensive career in technology and business development, research cooperation, and management. He has worked with most of the major cruise and ferry companies developing ship concepts and operation into more attractive and sustainable direction. Currently he works as a Director of Maritime and Technology Industry Branches at the Turku Science Park Ltd.

Ferdous Alam Patwary has been appointed as an Internationalization and Quality Assurance Analyst at SeaFocus.
Currently, he is studying master’s in international business and entrepreneurship as a final year student in University of Jyväskylä.
He also has achieved some administrative skills by working as admin assistant in UK and gained experience in organizing events related to health and safety in his domestic country.
His leadership role has assisted a multi-talented team winning the Intelligent hunt 4 competition in 2018.

The team has been working actively, studying, and analyzing, how to reduce CO2 emissions of pilot boats. The final proposal of the team will help Finnpilot to make their decision, how and by what time schedule critical measures have to be taken to achieve the demanding goal of reduction CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030,” says Markku Mylly, Mentor of the Team.
