Liisa Hurme is Senior Vice President of Orion Global Supply Chain including production, external operations, purchasing& planning& logistics and EHS. She is also Chairman of the Board for Fermion Oy, a chemical company that manufactures drug substances to global pharma companies and Orion. She is a member of Orion Executive Management Board since 2008. Liisa has vast experience in pharmaceutical industry with various executive positions, before the current position she lead two of the biggest global business divisions in Orion. She has international experience having worked in diagnostic industry in Sweden, Germany and France with her previous employer. In her current role she works with a joint challenge of the pharma industry which is largely dependent on Asian manufacturers for its raw materials and drug substances. This makes production and supply chains vulnerable in a highly regulated and complex industry where availability of affordable and life-saving treatments at the right time and quality is essential for patients and societies. The well -being of patients combined with sustainable and effective operations and is a matter of heart to her as well as keeping European industry competitive in the global markets.
Jyrki Ranki has more than 25 years experience from Scandinavian forest industry and logistics. Mr Ranki started his logistics career already in 1993 as working for Metsä Fibre Pulp company as a Logistics Manager. His main task was to create and operated centralised maritime and port logistics solution and organisation for Metsä Group Pulp Industry. In 2009 he was appointed as a Vice President of Metsä Fibre Logistics. Since 2010 he has also been responsible for Metsä Group´s Scandinavian land transportations and port handling as a head of these operations. Since 2015 Mr Ranki has been working as the Head of Metsä Group Maritime Category. Mr Ranki has also other positions of trust, as he has also been a Chairman of the Board of Directors of two Finnish Stevedoring in Kemi and Kaskinen.
Mia Brunila is Sales Director and logistics specialist working at Steveco Oy since 1993. In the heart of logistics and port operations Mia Brunila has worked in versatile occupations and has experience in different types of transportation and forwarding, including ocean, road and rail transportation with packed and bulk products. She finds it rewarding, and obliged, to help the domestic and global customers in finding the most economical, efficient and reliable routes for the cargo flows. Transparency throughout the operations, digitalisation and environmental friendliness are important missions at Steveco. Mia Brunila is interested in finding advanced methods of communication and assisting the customers with calculated outsourcing. Developing and streamlining the logistics operations is not a project, but a continuous process.
Markku Mylly has a long experience in the maritime sector since 1973. He was sailing in Finnish merchants ships until 1987, when he joined Finnish Maritime Administration. He worked in FMA until 2010 and he was the 10th and last Director General of FMA. In 2010 he moved to Finnish Port Association and worked there as a CEO until joined EMSA in 2012 September. He was the Executive Director of European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in Lisbon, Portugal 2012-2018. Markku Mylly has collaborated a lot on the international level since he joined FMA and he was responsible for many EU Twinning projects during years 2002 – 2010 in Estonia, Croatia and Bulgaria. He also participated the work of IMO (International Maritime organisation) IALA (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) and ESPO (European Seaports Organisation).
Esko Mustamäki has a long and wide experience in shipbuilding and maritime industry. He worked as a Managing Director for Arctech Helsinki Shipyard 4/2011 - 12/2018. Arctech Helsinki Shipyard was founded in 2010 specialized in building icebreakers and other Arctic offshore and special vessels. Today he is the Member of the Board of Directors of the Helsinki Shipyard. Prior to joining Arctech Helsinki Shipyard he was employed by Wärtsilä Marine in 1980 and after that he has been employed by F-G Shipping Inc., Finnlines Plc, Finstaship and SET-Group Ltd. Mustamäki graduated from Helsinki University of Technology in 1984 with MSc in Engineering and Shipbuilding and he has held several management level positions within the maritime sector.
Päivi Lonka is a business professional and leader in global business with over 10 year experience on executive level. Experienced to lead international teams located in all continents. On ‘90s working in Hong Kong to establish and lead a buying office for China and SEA countries. As Marimekko’s CSO built through 14 years together with global teams company’s current international distribution where Asia-Pacific is the most important market area beside strong domestic market. Now working in Fortum’s Bio2X team as textile professional – this is the project to develop textile fiber using straw as raw material.
Thomas Liljeqvist is responsible for sales activities for both New Build and Lifecycle services in Finland and Baltics. He joined the Company in 2013 and has held several different positions within Sales. Throughout the years Mr. Liljeqvist has been working with global customers and teams as Wärtsilä has become a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine market. Mr. Liljeqvist sees that future Marine market is built on commitment to sustainability and responsible business is based upon that purpose and strategy, which along with Wärtsilä’s sustainable development objectives create the framework for developing the activities and products. Wärtsilä’s strategy is based on three key areas, energy efficient solutions, lifecycle optimisation, and innovative solutions, all of which contribute to a more sustainable future in both the energy and the marine industry.
Sari Turkkila is an experienced communications professional who has spent years working in the fields of aviation and navigation. Her employers have included the Finnish Civil Aviation Authority, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi) and Finnpilot Pilotage Ltd. She is particularly interested in the digitalization of navigation processes and in corporate social responsibility. In my free time, she enjoys boating in the archipelago outside of Espoo. The sea is a vital part of her life both at work and in her time off!
Shipbrokers Finland Association celebrates its centennial anniversary in 2020. Member companies are Finland-based companies that serve as contracting partners for international shipping companies or Finnish subsidiaries of international shipping companies. They operate in all ports in Finland from the Bothnian Sea to the Saimaa Lake region.
Jukka Etelävuori has 30 years’ experience in developing and managing logistics. He has worked in executive positions in electronics companies and in logistic service providers. Since 2015 Jukka has worked as senior advisor (logistics) in National Emergency Supply Agency. He has a master's degree in engineering.
Staffan Herlin has a long experience in shipping business. Since his Master’s (Econ) degree in 1983 he has been faithful to the leading Finnish shipping company, Finnlines Plc and has held several positions within customer service, operations, profit units, sales and marketing, since 1995 on management level. In the late eighties, he represented the company in one of it’s agencies in Lübeck for almost four years. On top of his daily duties within Finnlines, Mr. Herlin also holds different positions in several commercial and institutional boards and committees.
Ulla Keino has a variable career over 30 years in supply chain management and logistics, and her knowledge of global value chains covers all product types from lipsticks to car tyres, from Masters’ paintings to copy machines, from tractors to laptops. Dr Rolf Neise is currently working as a freelance consultant supporting multinational companies to optimise their supply chain management and logistics structures and as a lecturer at the International School of Management (ISM). He has just written a book for a well-known international publisher on integrating container logistics into the shippers’ supply chain. It is the first book on the market looking at container logistics from a shipper’s perspective. Prior to that Mr Neise was working as the Global Head of Logistics Operations at BAT (British American Tobacco plc.), in charge of defining BAT’s Logistics Strategy in the End-to-End Supply Chain. Mr Neise majored in economic engineering at the Technical University Berlin and wrote his doctoral thesis on transport logistics at the University of Stuttgart.
Dennis Mol is a seasoned business executive and change leader in global operating maritime companies. Either private equity owned or publicly listed. More than 10 years he has held several P&L driven leadership positions in the merchant segment, super yachting market as well as offshore, focusing on new build projects and services execution. Besides operational COO roles, Mr Mol has lead technology developments as a CTO in SME’s, corporate and hi-tech scale-up companies. Currently he leads the global digital business transformation of MacGregor Group, being part of the Finish listed Cargotec Oyj. In other words: deploying new digital - data enabled - technology and customer solutions just beyond cargo and load handling equipment on board. "Inspiring employees in a fast changing maritime (digital) world and providing colleagues a meaningful framework to engage, participate, accelerate & deliver, is the main challenge today".
Patrik Strand has worked +10 years with Product Management of predictive maintenance, asset management and digital solutions related initiatives close to the marine market. Patrik has been +5 years at Wärtsilä in various Product / Portfolio Management positions close to asset management and digitally enabled services business development. Patrik holds a master (M.Sc.) in Engineering and Industrial Management. Seizing the opportunities enabled by digitalisation, in combination with leveraging the vast knowledge and experience acquired during decades from marine operations are the keys for success. Through broad co-creation and collaboration between numerous players in the marine market we’ll achieve great and sustainable results.
Artem Zhavoronkov specialises in corporate, antitrust, banking and financial law, as well as cross-border M&A transactions. Over the past 27 years, Artem has taken a hands-on role in providing legal support for international transactions, representing a wide range of foreign and Russian clients from various business sectors. These have included social networks, software development, telecommunications, direct investments, financial institutions, the motor industry, oil & gas, the iron & steel industry, food products, as well as development and construction. In 2014, Mr Zhavoronkov was one of the pioneers in Russia who became closely involved in compliance and sanctions regulation. In the context of this practice, he advises Russian and international companies on corporate governance, as well as the structuring of beneficial ownership and contractual relationships with foreign counterparties in order to identify and mitigate risks from sanctions.
Marcus Puffer is heading the Loyalty Line of Business, responsible for the iLoyal product suite, a next generation platform operating some of the most successful customer engagement programs in travel and transportation. Prior to joining IBS, he was General Manager of topbonus, airberlin’s loyalty program and the second largest frequent flyer program in Germany with more than 3mn members and over 120 partners. He successfully managed the corporatization of topbonus and subsequent sale of 70% to Etihad Airways. Prior to that, he spent a decade at Star Alliance - the leading global airline alliance - in roles spanning Network and Membership Development. He started his career with Austrian Airlines with a focus on market research and long term network planning.
Johan Elzes is a Dutch national who has been living and working in Russia since 2011. He has a Masters degree in Russian literature and is now Business Unit Director of Ahlers’ Trade Facilitation & After Sales Services. After his studies he decided to work and live a year in Russia to gain experience. This was in 2011 and he never left. Johan started in sales with Ahlers, selling DDP deliveries to Russia. This means that as logistics provider, Ahlers does not only do the logistics, but also takes care of the import into Russia and the further sales of the goods, on behalf of its customers. In this sense, companies can outsource the complexity of doing business in a challenging region as Russia to Ahlers and receive real value from it. As such Ahlers supports international premium brands to develop their business in Russia. Ahlers itself is a Belgian logistics company with a strong regional presence in Russia and the wider CIS region. In fact, the CIS region is the biggest region of Ahlers worldwide representing 50% of Ahlers’ total business.
Working in Lavazza since August 2014, today Mattia Tipaldi is commercial responsible for the Eastern Europe geography, managing more than 11 countries and different business functions (sales, marketing, business development and business services). Mr Tipaldi developed a wide experience in Sales and Marketing area in different geographies. In 2014 he covered the role of Food Service Marketing Manager, being responsible of the global Food Service marketing mix, channel strategic plan, products innovation pipeline for both Coffee and Not-Coffee products. At the end of 2016 he become Business Unit Director of Central & South America, managing all business functions and including offices in Brazil and Argentina. Before joining Lavazza, Mr. Tipaldi worked for six years at Bain & Company as consultant developing a deep experience in the Consumer Goods Industry focused on commercial strategy and effectiveness, route to market, business turnaround. He graduated in Rome, completing his Master´s Degree in “Economics and Finance” at LUISS Business School in 2009
Riikka Joukio is Senior Vice President, Climate and Circular Economy at Metsä Group in Finland. Metsä Group is a forerunner in sustainable bioeconomy and circular economy, by utilising renewable wood from northern forests into first-class products. Mrs Joukio holds a Master’s degree in technology as well as in strategic management and international marketing. She has acquired extensive work experience in global forest and packaging industries having held several business and expert organisation leader positions. She also has strong engagement with several national and international organisations in the field of sustainable forest management, circular economy and industry.
Dinis Guarda is an author, academic, influencer, serial entrepreneur and leader in 4IR, AI, Fintech, digital transformation and Blockchain. With over two decades of experience in international business, C level positions and digital transformation, Dinis has worked with new tech, cryptocurrencies, drive ICOs, regulation, compliance, legal international processes, and has created a bank, and been involved in the inception of some of the top 100 digital currencies. Mr Guarda has created various companies such as Ztudium tech platform a digital and blockchain startup that created the software Blockimpact (sold to Glance Technologies Inc) and founder and publisher of intelligenthq.com, hedgethink.com, tokensdna.com and tradersdna.com. Sauli Savisalo leads the Department of Infrastructure at National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) which promotes business preparedness especially for serious disruptions and exceptional situations in the areas of digital society, cyber security, logistics, finance and media. Savisalo has more than 10 years of work experience at NESA, two years in business and about 30 years in the development of management systems and information management in the Finnish Defence Forces.
Alexander Varvarenko is a Belgian businessmen, founder of the shipping company VARAMAR (www.varamar.com) and founder and CEO of the sea freight operation exchange and online freight platform SHIPNEXT (www.shipnext.com) He is a social activist, co-founder of Odessa Business Club, organiser of the Annual Maritime Brokers’ Dinner as a regular international event by Ukrainian Maritime Club that he has also founded. Varamar is a shipping company with offices in Vancouver, Hamburg, Genoa, Odesa and Dubai, involved in dry-bulk, break-bulk, heavy and oversized cargo transportation. Shipnext is a digital Shipping Marketplace and Cargo Booking Platform with offices in the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Ukraine.
Erik Lewenhaupt is Head of Sustainability, Brand and Communication in Stena Line. He started in shipping in 1996 and has spent most of his career in commercial tanker operations in Europe and Singapore. Since a few years back he is responsible for driving green development in Stena Line which is a leading ferry operator with 38 ships on 18 routes in northern Europe.
Poul Woodall has over 40 years of experience within the maritime and transport industry. The first 36 years were spent with A.P.Moller-Maersk in various positions, mainly within the container and Ro/Ro segments. His career includes 17 years overseas experience with postings in Asia, The Middle East and Europe. Since 2010, Mr Woodall has been with DFDS A/S in Copenhagen and in June 2013 he was appointed Director for Environment and Sustainability for the DFDS Group.
Throughout his professional career, Thomas Doepel has systematically enriched his knowledge and experience within the shipping industry. By combining maritime knowledge with a broad economic insight through his Master Mariner, M.Sc. Economics and MBA studies and by applying a systematic vertical, horizontal and functional job rotation, he has gained a deep understanding of the real key drivers in the shipping business and gained a good understanding of the fundamental business opportunities and risks. Mr Doepel has been a member of the Executive Committee at Finnlines since 2013 and took on the position as Chief Operating Officer (COO) from beginning of 2020 in Finnlines.

Frank Kho, an independent advisor active in the container logistic and terminal industry since 2018. He has more than 30 years’ experience in this industry across the globe. His career includes 20+ year in several senior management positions in Asia and Europe with PSA and HPH, 2 of the leading global terminal operators. And prior to become an advisor, he was a member of the global leadership team of Kalmar (equipment and automation solutions for the terminal industry). Recently he has been appointed as the CEO of the new TIC 4.0 Association (Terminal Industry Committee 4.0), supported by FEPORT and PEMA, developing standards for the terminal industry. Mr Kho has an excellent track record in managing and leading several container terminals across the globe, including HIT in Hongkong and PSA Antwerp. Within Kalmar, Mr Kho has led the discussion regarding strategy and vision on automation in the container industry and was also responsible for offering development and account management. He has a Master degree in Control Engineering/Avionics and is also an ICF-trained Professional Coach (certification is pending).
