IntelligenceHunt II Project

The #IntelligenceHunt2 Finals was held November 14th 2017 onboard M/S Silja Serenade at the Port of Helsinki.​

There were 13 companies with cases  and 85 students divided into 25 teams. The student teams worked on the cases in close co-operation with the companies for 2 months and presented their solutions at the Finals.

All together there were almost 200 participants representing 28 different nationalities.

The Winners of the IntelligenceHunt2 Competition

Distinguished Jury of the #IntelligenceHunt2 did not have an easy job to choose the winners. 

The winner was Varova case and team Strategic Digi Leap and the first runner up MacGregor case and team Roll-on-Roll-off. 

The winner team was awarded with a check of 3000€ granted by the Finnish Shipowners´ Foundation and the first runner up with a check of 1500€ granted by DFDS Group.

ULLA KEINO, CEO & CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, SEAFOCUS

Ulla Keino´s over 30 years of experience of shipping started with Metsä Group in 1986, following a career of 8 years in the Stora Enso Group (former Enso Plc). During these years she was responsible of mainly short sea shipping and especially of internal waterway shipments of forest products, paper, paperboard, timber and pulp. She was an important customer for the German, Finnish and Russian shipowners and shipbrokers. She has held important positions in the several Finnish industries and governmental initiated projects related to forest industry logistics and governmental maritime infrastructure and development projects.

REIJO KROOK, VICE PRESIDENT INTERNAL AUDIT AND QUALITY SYSTEMS, FINNLINES PLC

Reijo Krook has acted in different kind of development jobs in ship building and shipping business since 1980’s. The career began at Helsinki shipyard at mid 80’s as naval architect and designer of ship deck machinery. Thereafter, shifting to shipping company,  work at Finnlines and it’s predecessor companies has included different kind of shipping related development work from logistics consultation to strategic corporate planning and development of operative processes as well as governance of the management procedures.

11.24 CASE 2) OBSERVINGTHE SENSITIVE POLAR NATURE IN THE DESIGN OF EXPEDITION CRUISERS

ESKO MUSTAMÄKI, CEO, ARCTECH HELSINKI SHIPYARD

Esko Mustamäki graduated from Helsinki University of Technology in 1984 with MSc in Engineering and Shipbuilding and he has held several management level positions within the maritime sector. He was employed by Wärtsilä Marine in 1980 and after that he has been employed by F-G Shipping Inc., Finnlines Plc, Finstaship and SET-Group Ltd. Since April 2011 Mr Mustamäki has worked as Managing Director for Arctech Helsinki Shipyard, a shipyard founded in 2010 that specializes in building icebreakers, offshore and special vessels.

ANDREAS SLOTTE, TRAFFIC MANAGER, PORT OF HELSINKI 

Andreas Slotte is a Captain & MBA student, 37 year old father of two. Mr Slotte works as a Traffic Manager at the Port of Helsinki. Operational responsibility of Finland’s largest cargo harbor, Vuosaari. Professional interests include fuel efficiency, digitalization, smart logistics, platform economy, big data, circular economy and countless other topics.​

Christopher Engman studied Industrial Management and Engineering at Luleå Technical University, French at Université de Savoi, Italian at Università di Firenze and Systems Engineering at Stockholm University. He has founded and been CEO at Retain 24, Taxisystem and Vendemore. He was also the CIO of the fashion group Retail and Brands. Board member of 6 startups. Politician. At Climeon Christopher is an investor and is responsible for Marketing and Sales.

Inspiring Speaker: PER WESTLING Managing Director, Stena RoRo

Per Westling has been employed by Stena since 1985. In addition to a M.Sc. degree in Naval Architecture from Chalmers Technical University of Gothenburg, Sweden, Mr Westling is trained as an Engineer within the Royal Swedish Navy. Within the Stena group he has been project manager for several newbuildings and major conversion projects but also served for five years within the Stena Line Ship Management. In 2001 he moved to Stena RoRo as Conversion Manager, took on the role of Deputy Managing Director in 2008 and subsequently Managing Director in 2011.

Poul Woodall has over 40 years of experience within the maritime and transport industry. The first 36 years were spent with A.P.Moller-Maersk in various positions, mainly within the container and Ro/Ro segments. His career includes 17 years overseas experience with postings in Asia, The Middle East and Europe. Since 2010, Mr Woodall has been with DFDS A/S in Copenhagen and in June 2013 he was appointed Director for Environment and Sustainability for the DFDS.

LAURA HASKO, DEVELOPMENT & QUALITY MANAGER, STEVECO OY 

Laura Hasko graduated as a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Lappeenranta University of Technology. She has work with logistics for about 15 years in different roles. She has constructed an Integrated Management system for Steveco, with quality, environment and safety aspects. Ms Hasko has worked as a Project Manager for South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences in project aiming to improve safety management in the Finnish Ports. She has worked for Steveco for 11 years, in Human Resources, as a Development and Quality Manager.

Magnus Bergenlid is Master Mariner & DPO with on board-experience from various vessels. Has been working at Stena for 7 years whereof the past 3 as Manager Commercial Operation. Bringing the combination of practical operational business experience, passion for technology in general and digital in particular, into Stena Digital Transformation Lab – A central initiative for Stena’s transformative work.

Sofia Fürstenberg has been with the maritime industry since 2006, and after 5 years with DNV-GL, developing decision support for greener investments in the shipping industry, and another 5 as a maritime technology innovation manager with A.P. Moeller-Maersk, she is now responsible for Nor-Shipping's future-focused initiative "Disruptive Sustainability". Through industry insight, technology knowledge and a passion for innovation, sustainability and industry collaboration, Sofia is on track to make a positive difference to the maritime industry and beyond.

13.56 CASE 8) SUSTAINABLE PROCEDURES FOR EFFECTIVE CHECK-IN AND LOADING ROUTINESS OF CARGO UNITS TO SHHIPS SAILING IN THE BALTIC SEA

MARINA HASSELBLATT, SALES MANAGER, CARGO SERVICES, TALLINK SILJA 

Marina Hasselblatt has been working in the cargo business since 1993. Today she is in charge of cargo sales activities as well as the TallinkSilja Cargo booking and check-in offices in Helsinki and Turku. As she herself started here cargo career in the booking office, the development of booking and check-in routines is very close to her heart.  When Tallink, Superfast and Silja Line joined forces in 2006 she built up a common central Cargo booking office in Helsinki. This office is still working according to the same model, and now Ms Hasselblatt is constantly trying to find more sustainable and  effective solutions to the operations.​​

Phillip Tipping has a 10 year career in the army as an electrical mechanical engineer. After leaving the army, he moved to Sweden and, from humble beginnings, he demonstrated to subsequent employers that there was no new skill that he could not pick up through focus, diligence and an organised methodology. Through roles as Control Systems manager, Business development in China, and Director - Customer Innovation, Mr Tipping has developed a skill-set which has proven to meet and overcome many of the challenges provided by the industry.

Frank Kho as member of the Kalmar Leadership Team, is responsible for Market Intelligence, Strategy and Offering development at Kalmar. Mr. Kho has over 20 years of industry experience in several senior management positions at world's leading port operators, such as the Antwerp terminals of PSA and several terminals of HPH. He headed container operations with significant operational efficiencies in cost per unit moved with improved service levels. Mr. Kho has an outstanding track record in terminal management at leading ports throughout Europe and Asia, where he has championed operational efficiency, cost reduction strategies and terminal design.

From the beginning, Irene Rosberg has been responsible for the design, development and co-ordination of The Blue MBA. On behalf of CBS, she has a fundamental role in building global relationships and networks within the maritime industry. She also promotes research identifying challenges and future issues for the maritime industry as a whole.  She is a member of many international boards and committees.  Based on her extensive international network and experience, she has been entrusted with major roles in varied maritime-related activities, and speaks at leading maritime events.

Eyden Samunderu is a leading expert in the area of air transport with extensive consulting experience.  He currently holds a PhD in Strategic Management and is a Program Director for a Master´s program at the International School of Management in Dortmund Germany. He is also sitting as an Advisory Board Member for the Hamburg Aviation Conference. His research interests include: aviation, multimarket contact, strategic groups and competition dynamics, container logistics and maritime economics.

Tapio Koivu has been active in a number of boards of start-ups (Solucel oy, Envault corp, Vergo Oy, Plexpress Oy, Zora Biosciences, Global Eco Solutions Oy), chair of an investment committee of a start-up fund (Seed Cap II) and active in different business development functions (Venture Cup Foundation, board) as well. He was appointed to the position of Executive Director of Heureka in August 2014. From 2011 to early 2013 he was director of Research Affairs at the University of Helsinki. Prior to this, he was Executive Vice President at Technical Research Center of Finland (VTT). Dr. Koivu held the position of Vice President and founder of VTT’s office in Silicon Valley and Research Fellow at Stanford from 2001 to 2004.
