Finals of the #IntelligenceHunt1 project was held May 18th 2017 at the Heureka Science Centre in Finland. All together the Finals gathered around 80 participants, representatives of companies and students from 22 different nationalities.
There were 13 companies with cases and 38 international students. The student groups worked on the cases for 2 months and presented their solutions at the Finals. The outcome from their work surprised us all with innovativeness, great ambition and yet realistic approaches.
The winner team was Deltamarin with a Case: Utilisation of Total Cost of Ownership Model to Enhance Deltamarin’s Added Value. Team members Anna Lönnblad and Joonas Honkanen, from the Aalto University School of Business were awarded with a 3000€ check granted by the Finnish Shipowners´ Foundation. In addition the winners got to join an international program called 2017COMMUNICATORS KIT, a 10 weeks program guided by International Professionals offered by E52center.
ULLA KEINO, CEO, SEAFOCUS
Ulla Keino´s over 30 years of experience of shipping started with Metsä Group in 1986, following a career of 8 years in the Stora Enso Group (former Enso Plc). During these years she was responsible of mainly short sea shipping and especially of internal waterway shipments of forest products, paper, paperboard, timber and pulp. She was an important customer for the German, Finnish and Russian shipowners and shipbrokers. She has held important positions in the several Finnish industries and governmental initiated projects related to forest industry logistics and governmental maritime infrastructure and development projects.
Tiina Tuurnala began her career in the field of hydrography with the Finnish Maritime Administration in the early 1990’s. With the establishment of the Finnish Transport Agency in 2010, Tiina was appointed Development Director. In 2011 she was appointed Deputy Director General in charge of the national traffic management. In 2013 Mrs Tuurnala was appointed Deputy Director General in charge of the traffic and Information Function and she was responsible for national traffic management (road, maritime, rail), icebreaking services, hydrographic surveys and functions related to the development of digitisation, automatisation and intelligent traffic.
Håkan Fagerström is a results driven Executive with experience in leading a Stevedores Company, Marine Operations, Cargo Operations, Cargo Sales & Marketing. Starting 1.5.2017 he was appointed as a Group Head of Cargo of Tallink Grupp. He graduated from Maritime University in Turku (Captain, Maritime) in 2000 and continued his studies at Aalto University 2011 from where he graduated as EMBA in 2013. At this moment Håkan is a DBA 2017 candidate at Aalto University aiming for a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration.
Marthe Lamp Sandvik had previously held positions within the company as Head of Tanker Analysis, and Shipping Analyst.
Prior to joining Lorentzen & Stemoco, she held a position within the corporate service division of DNB. She holds an MA (Hons.) in Politics and Arabic from the University of Edinburgh, and an additional degree in Shipping Administration from BI Norwegian Business School.
She is the founder of Oslo-based women’s network LadyShip for young women in shipping, sits on the board of the Shipping and Offshore Network, is Head of Young@Nor-Shipping, a WISTA member and a previous board member of YoungShip Oslo.
Throughout his professional career, Thomas Doepel has always worked within the shipping industry, both onboard vessels in several deck officer positions and later on in different management positions in the offices. In addition to his current position, he is also a member of the Executive Committee at Finnlines.

Reijo Krook has acted in different kind of development jobs in ship building and shipping business since 1980’s. The career began at Helsinki shipyard at mid 80’s as naval architect and designer of ship deck machinery. Thereafter, shifting to shipping company, work at Finnlines and it’s predecessor companies has included different kind of shipping related development work from logistics consultation to strategic corporate planning and development of operative processes as well as governance of the management procedures.
JUKKA KUUSKOSKI, SVP, SALES & MARKETING, NORSEPOWER LTD
Jukka Kuuskoski has a M.Sc. (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) and an eMBA from the Helsinki University of Technology. He worked with ABB's marine business unit for 15 years in management positions of delivery projects, sales and marketing and service operations. During the past 7 years Jukka worked in the wind power industry with Winwind Oy, a wind turbine manufacturer, and with Element Power, a wind power project developer. He joined Norsepower in 2016 and is responsible for the sales and marketing of Norsepower's Rotor Sails.
TERO HAAPALINNA, QUALIFIED INTERNAL SAFETY AUDITOR, BORE LTD.
Since 2009 Tero Haapalinna works as a Safety and Quality Manager, Bore LTD. Responsible for Safety and Security matters on board the Bore Fleet. Additionally in charge of Environmental Protection, including ISO 14001 Standard. Worked previously with K Line LNG Shipping in London, specialised with LNG Transport. Also experienced with LNG production and shipment in Qatar early 2000’s. Currently reviewing Bore Safety Management System and in conjunction with the SMS looking into challenges in data handling on board the ships and ashore.
TEEMU KOIVUNEN, DIRECTOR, INTEGRATED LOGISTICS,
OY KUEHNE + NAGEL LTD
Teemu Koivunen worked at Kuehne+Nagel since 2006. He has always worked in Integrated Logistics department where he has held several positions during his career. Mr Koivunen has also worked in Poland for 1 year within Kuehne+Nagel Integrated Logistics as a business Manager for a global leading FMCG company. Since 2012 he has held his current position, the Director of Integrated Logistics Finland. During his career in Kuehne+Nagel he has worked with several customers from several industries, including Maritime Industry.
JORMA TIMONEN, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT, FINNISH MARITIME ADMINISTRATION
Jorma Timonen joined the Finnish Hydrographic Office, which was part of the Finnish Maritime Administration at that time, in 1999 and started to work with production, validation and distribution of electronic navigational charts (ENC's). In 2007 he started as a coordinator of production plans and schedules of nautical chart products, both printed and electronic. Co-operation with the mariners and maritime schools, icebreakers, pilots and the navy had important role all the time when working with the nautical charts.
In 2012 he had a chance to change point of view and to work as a deputy bathymetric data manager for a year. In 2016 Mr Timonen joined the team which works with project called "Intelligent fairway".
HÅKAN FAGERSTRÖM, Head Group Cargo, Tallink Grupp
MARKKU MIINALA, DIRECTOR, SALES & MARKETING , DELTAMARIN
After graduating in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1999, Markku Miinala worked at Deltamarin for 10 years in ship conceptual design development and especially with safety assessments. Starting from March 2010, Mr Miinala worked for three and a half years as Business Manager, Marine & Offshore at Marioff Corporation, the leading high-pressure water mist fire protection company. In autumn 2013, Mr Miinala joined Deltamarin again and worked in Singapore as Regional Director, South East Asia until year 2015. Currently his main task is to globally coordinate and develop Deltamarin’s sales and marketing functions for shipping, shipbuilding and offshore oil & gas sectors.
JARI JOKELA, Dr., SENIOR PROCESS SPECIALIST, EVAC
Earlier Jari Jokela conducted research work on waste and wastewater technologies in University of Jyväskylä, where Ph.D. awarded 2002. After that, he was Managing Director of Metener Oy, where the focus was on waste and alternative vehicle fuel technologies. Mr Jokela has been managing the process R&D in Evac Oy now for 13 years.
JOHAN VON KNORRING, FOUNDER, CEO, AB NANOL TECHNOLOGIES OY
Johan von Knorring has held several senior management positions within the chemical and petrochemical industry with companies such as, Bang & Bonsomer Group Oy, Borealis AS, Neste Oy, Eka Nobel AB, and Kemira Oyj. He was CEO of Bang & Bonsomer Group between 2005 and 2010. During more than 14 years of international assignments with Borealis, he has gained a wide experience spanning from sales and marketing management to business and technology operations. MR. Knorring has a solid international experience in the field of acquisitions and integration of business portfolios, manufacturing assets, and research and technology activities.

Alexander Helling is an international trade finance professional with over 10 year experience from China and Asia.
AARNO NIEMI, AUTOMATION MANAGER, STEERPROP LTD
Aarno Niemi received M. Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Helsinki University of Technology in 1981. In 1985 Mr Niemi took his first position in marine industry as R&D Engineer at Rauma-Repola Oy, and in 1988 he joined Aquamaster-Rauma Ltd, working as Head Designer at the electrical department, until the year 2000 when he left the company – by then a part of Rolls-Royce Ltd. – to join Steerprop Ltd.At Steerprop Mr. Niemi was appointed Automation Manager. During the first years he was also in charge of Quality Management and IT. In the recent years he has been involved in development of high power CRP (Contra-Rotating Propellers) propulsion units and new generation propulsion solution for workboats.

JUKKA-PEKKA SALLINEN, DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, AKER ARCTIC TECHNOLOGIES INC.
After graduating as a Naval Architect in 2013, Jukka-Pekka Sallinen joined Aker Arctic Technology as a Research Engineer to the ice model testing team. In 2016 he joined to Electrical and IT-department and started working with Arctic Ice Simulator as a Development Engineer.
Chairman of the Jury: TAPIO KOIVU, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, HEUREKA SCIENCE CENTRE
Through the years up to now, Tapio Koivu has been active in a number of boards of start-ups (Solucel oy, Envault corp, Vergo Oy, Plexpress Oy, Zora Biosciences, Global Eco Solutions Oy), chair of an investment committee of a start-up fund (Seed Cap II) and active in different business development functions (Venture Cup Foundation, board) as well. Mr Koivu has also had a key role in creating various innovation platforms, such as Helsinki Think Company and InnoHub Oy, a joint company between VTT and Philips. He was appointed to the position of Executive Director of Heureka in August 2014.

Petri Kalliokoski has business and organisational responsibility over the KIPS business area, which covers VTT’s research, innovation and customer activities in ICT, electronics and health technologies. Mr Kalliokoski is a member of VTT’s Executive Board. Additionally, he acts as the chairman of the board of VTT Ventures Ltd which co-invests in VTT's spin-offs with private investors and has around 20 companies in start-up phase. He is also a chairman or a board member in several high-tech and manufacturing companies, and acts as a strategic advisor for several VTT’s customers on strategy and innovation.

Miki Toivonen aims to see things innovatively and from new angles and is especially interested in banking branch and changing the banking systems to new era. 16.06/2016 - 31.12/2016 Finance Specialist, Junior, Santander Consumer Finance Oy. Job description: Incoming & outgoing payments and daily bank account reconciliation. He worked for the summer and after that as a part-time worker beside the school.
